And when a player changes his or her golf ball, the equation needs to be reconfigured. That’s what Mickelson did prior to starting his season.

After switching from Callaway’s Tour ix ball to the company’s new iz version, Mickelson concluded a change in driver loft was necessary, too.

“I’ve knocked it down to just below 6 [degrees],” said Lefty of his Callaway Tour Authentic driver. “It’s … for the simple reason of trying to get some spin off of it, and it seems to have done the trick.”

Interestingly, Mickelson may be the only player on tour whose putter loft (which is 6 degrees) equals that of his driver.
